Penn State Berks Cybersecurity Awareness Month Events

Penn State Berks is hosting a series of events throughout October to celebrate Cybersecurity Awareness Month. These events aim to raise awareness about cybersecurity issues and best practices.

STEM Today and Tomorrow Conference

Date: Friday, Oct. 17, Penn State Berks
This conference targets 10th and 11th grade students interested in STEM careers. Participants will engage in workshops led by Penn State Berks faculty and students, featuring interactive exercises, laboratory activities, and career discussions. AI and Cybersecurity Webinar

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 21, 5 p.m., Zoom
This webinar invites current students and industry professionals to discuss the intersection of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The event will be hosted by Burak Kantarci, a professor specializing in AI-Enabled Secure Networking. To participate, register through the Zoom link.

HackPSU

Date: Saturday, Oct. 25, Penn State University Park
Penn State Berks students will attend HackPSU, a 24-hour hackathon where teams compete in various challenges related to Sustainability, Generative AI, and Entrepreneurship. Students interested in joining can register for HackPSU online.

IT and Cybersecurity Career Pathways Panel

Date: Thursday, Oct. 30, 3 to 4 p.m., 121 Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building
This panel will feature alumni from the Information Science Technology program discussing their careers in IT and cybersecurity. The event is open to students, faculty, staff, and the local community.

In recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Penn State Berks information sciences and technology department is hosting events tailored for a range of audiences, including K-12 students, educators, and the general community.

HackPSU

Date: Saturday, Oct. 12, Business Building, Penn State University Park
This event is exclusively for Penn State Berks students participating in a 24-hour hackathon, competing in various challenges.

Cybersecurity Career Pathways Panel

Date: Monday, Oct. 14, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building, Room 121
This panel will have alumni from the information sciences and technology program discussing their cybersecurity experiences. Panelists include professionals from Google Cloud Security and Accenture Security.

Cyber Lions Presentation

Date: Thursday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m., Centro Hispano Daniel Torres in Reading
The Cyber Lions student organization will present to clients, educating seniors on cybersecurity scams and device security.

AI and Cybersecurity Webinar

Date: Wednesday, Oct. 23, 6 p.m., Zoom
This public webinar will feature Zuobin Xiong from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, discussing AI-related cybersecurity concerns.

UBNetDef Lockdown Competition

Date: Saturday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building, Room 206
Participants from the Penn State Berks Technology Club will engage in a remote cybersecurity competition.

Cybersecurity and IT Programs

Penn State Berks offers degree programs in cybersecurity analytics and operations, security and risk analysis, and information technology. Each program prepares students for critical roles in protecting digital information and addressing cybersecurity threats.

Students in the cybersecurity analytics program learn to protect digital information through cyber-defense strategies, while the information technology program provides problem-solving skills and technical knowledge. The security and risk analysis degree focuses on preparing students for national security and emergency response roles.
